Northeastern has become aware that we are a victim of a malware attack. This appears to have started the afternoon of January 18, 2022 (but it’s possible it could have started earlier).
A number of clients and suppliers and other contacts of Northeastern have reported that they are receiving emails from individuals posing as Northeastern employees, when in fact the emails are originating outside our company.
Upon closer inspection of these malicious emails, the email addresses do not correspond with any legitimate Northeastern email addresses, this is a telltale sign.
These malicious emails may contain viruses in the form of attachments, or they may contain malicious hyperlinks. BE CAUTIOUS when opening any email. You are strongly advised to install a reputable antivirus software on all your devices and keep it updated.
We apologize for any inconvenience and we are taking steps to strengthen our internal IT security where possible.
